Who is behind Regimap
Regimap is a non-commercial hobby project made and run by one private person in Denmark. It has no company behind it, no funding, no advertising and no sponsors.
The site is hosted on Cloudflare and its code and data are kept in a private repository on GitHub.
Privacy
Regimap sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser, and does not try to recognise you across visits. It embeds no third-party fonts, images or advertising, and keeps no server logs of its own.
Visits are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics, a measurement that works without cookies, local storage or fingerprinting. For each page view it records the page, the referring site, the browser type and the country derived from your IP address; the IP address itself is not stored in the statistics, and the result is aggregate numbers only. The legal basis is the legitimate interest in knowing whether and where the site is used (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Cloudflare processes this on our behalf under its data processing terms; transfers to the United States rest on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which Cloudflare is certified under.
The site is delivered by Cloudflare, Inc., which, like any host, processes your IP address and request in order to serve the page and protect the service. Cloudflare acts as our processor; see Cloudflare's privacy policy for how long it keeps connection logs.
Because the statistics hold no record of individual visitors, there is nothing to request access to, correct or delete about you as a visitor. Personal data about public figures is covered under "Corrections and removal" below.
What the site is, and is not
Regimap shows figures from open data sources and hand-written assessments about who governs each country and how it is doing. It is a personal overview, not journalism, research or advice of any kind.
Every figure carries its year and source. Figures can be wrong or outdated at the source; assessments are one person's reading of named sources and are marked as such. The assessments are drafted with the help of an AI assistant from the cited sources and are published under the owner's responsibility.
Nothing on the site should be relied on for financial, legal, political, travel or security decisions. Use of the site is at your own risk; the owner accepts no liability for errors, omissions or for what anyone does with the content.
People named on the site
The site names heads of state and government and holders of public office, as recorded in Wikidata, and a small number of people whom named, serious publications describe as influential. It shows only their name, office or publicly reported role, dates, and a portrait that the person or a photographer has published under a free licence.
This processing rests on the legitimate interest in informing the public about who holds power, under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, and on the exemption for journalistic and informational purposes in Danish law. No sensitive data is processed on purpose; a person's party affiliation is shown only where it is public and reported by Wikidata.
A description of a person's role or influence summarises what the cited source says, linked beside the name; it is not the owner's own finding, and the person has not been asked for comment. Anyone named in connection with charges or an investigation is presumed innocent until a final judgment.
Corrections and removal
If a figure, a name, a role or a portrait is wrong, out of date or should not be shown, write to the contact address shown at the bottom of this page. Requests are answered within 30 days. Figures and persons that come from Wikidata or Wikimedia Commons are also corrected fastest at the source, which every entry links to.
A person named on the site may ask for their entry to be reviewed or removed. The owner will weigh the request against the public interest in the information and reply with the decision.
Licences and attribution
Figures: World Bank (CC BY 4.0), Our World in Data (CC BY 4.0), which republish data from UNODC, SIPRI, FAO, UNESCO, V-Dem, UNDP, the UN and FAS, and the IMF (free use with attribution). The original source is named next to each figure.
People and positions: Wikidata (CC0). Portraits: Wikimedia Commons, each under the licence its author chose, listed with author and licence on the Image credits page. Country names, capitals and flags: the world-countries dataset (ODbL 1.0). Map geometry: Natural Earth (public domain).
The hand-written texts and the site's own design and code belong to the site's owner. Short quotations with a link to the source are welcome. Figures remain under their sources' licences.
Accessibility
The site is built to be usable with a keyboard and a screen reader: every country on the map is a button with its name, the list is always an alternative to the map, text keeps at least 4.5:1 contrast in both colour themes, and the map encodes nothing in colour alone. If something does not work for you, use the contact address.
